My father enlisted in the U.S. Navy on February 9, 1944. He was 18 years
old at the time. He completed the Navy V-12 Program at the University of
Texas, Austin.

Dispatch orders dated July 29, 1946 from D.E. Busher, Commandant Third Naval

Sound AV11.

He was released in to inactive duty on June 6, 1947 as an Ensign (D)L USNR,
having served on the USS Denver (CL-58?) and the USS Norton Sound (AV-11)
and also at Great Lakes, Illinois and Newport RI (exact dates not available).

On February 15, 1952, he was called from inactive duty. At the time he was a
LT JG. He served in the Special Weapons Unit, Pacific. He was appointed the
rank of LT 1 May, 1953 and discharged from the service January 12, 1954

At the time of discharge, the following medals had been awarded to my dad:
the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (Two Stars), China
Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Victory World War II
American Area Medal. He had completed Special Weapons Courses AE-5 and
AR-5.
